Equipment Requirements

Low volume mask, snorkel, longblade fins, rubber weight-belt and a full 3mm or thicker wetsuit with hood is required for pool or open water. A 2 piece (hooded jacket and pants/overalls) open cell freediving wetsuit is recommended from October to May- a typical scuba or surfing wetsuit does not provide adequate warmth for our training in cooler months in Florida and you may not be able to complete class due to cold and shivering.

Location Info (Addresses)

Tampa-Apollo Beach (Apollo Beach, Florida, US)

Classroom and Pool is located at Apollo Beach Racquet and Fitness, 6520 Richies Way, Apollo Beach, FL, 33572.

Open water is located at Troy Springs State Park, 100 NE Oleander Rd, Mayo, FL, 32008.

Classroom and pool Day(s): We start classroom promptly at 6pm on Day 1. Day 2 we will be in classroom from 8am-noon, followed by pool. Please bring your current swim and dive gear (mask, snorkel, fins, weigh-belt and wetsuit) to pool. You will need a full 3mm hooded wetsuit for static breath-holds from October to April to prevent being cold or shivering (even in heated pools). We will alternate pool with final classroom sessions.

PFI Freediver-Open water day: (not applicable on Pool only courses)- Open water sessions will be held on the final listed date of course and includes two open water sessions- one free immersion (pulldowns) and constant ballast with fins (kicking down) of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours per session. Open water sessions will primarily be held at Troy Springs State Park or alternate dive site in the event of flooding or park closure. Sessions typically start at 10am to allow for the 3 hour travel time from Tampa and typically end by by 3pm to allow travel time back to Tampa. Please contact instructor one to two week prior to course to verify open water location in the event of poor weather, flooding or undiveable water conditions.
